EASTERN Police District (EPD) personnel are tracking down the donor of a relief package for Marawi evacuees that was found to have more than a hundred rounds of ammunition and gun accessories.
Chief Supt. Romeo Sapitula, EPD commander, identified the suspected donor only as a certain “AJ”.
He was tagged by Mohaimen Mutalib, of Reliance Street, Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City, as the person who tried to put the 9mm ammunition in the relief packages that he collected for distribution to Marawi City residents who fled the fighting between government forces and Maute Group bandits.
Mutalib is a native of Marawi City.
Sapitula said Mutalib found the 9mm rounds found inside a box containing some clothes.
Aside from the 9mm ammunition, also found were a holster and some ammunition magazines.
The police are still determining if “AJ” intended to smuggle the ammunition and gun accessories or merely inadvertently left the items in the box he used to pack the relief items he donated.
The police said 9mm rounds in the package were old reloads that may even pose a danger to the person who fires them.
