TAIPEI, Taiwan-headquartered D-Link Systems Inc. announced on June 14 the roll out of its new surveillance camera called “Omna”, or DSH-C310.
In a statement, the Taiwanese multinational networking equipment maker said the home-surveillance system would be made available in selected Power Mac stores nationwide this July.
The launch came after D-Link said its net revenue for the first quarter of the year was NT$4.73 billion (roughly $155.3 million), down by 19.3 percent “sequentially due mostly to the drop in seasonal retail sales in the US and Europe, as well as slower projects pull in emerging markets”.
In the emerging market, revenues were down by 19.4 percent on a quarter-on-quarter basis “as there was less project pull coinciding with the slower retail during the first quarter of the year”, the company said in its financial statement for the quarter.
D-Link said the technology behind Omna is combined with Apple’s Home technology.
With the network surveillance device’s motion-detection feature, a user can synchronize with other HomeKit accessories through their Home Hub and remotely turn on the lights in the house as needed. Once motion is detected, the user can even set the device and Home app to send alerts and notifications.
The unit has a 180-degree wide-angle lens, full-high definition 1080p resolution and two-way audio function. In addition, the unit has night-vision capabilities of up to 16 feet and expandable storage of up to 128 gigabytes. The user can also ask Siri to pull up the live feed of the Home hub-controlled security camera and access the Omna Cam through an iPhone or iPad.
The camera also features a microSD card slot to record time-sensitive videos clips and 2-megapixel images for future playback.
The company is selling the device at P12,499 ($248.61 at current exchange rates).
