CIGNAL claimed its second win in three days by ripping Gamboa Coffee Mix, 118-51, on Thursday in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
Pamboy Raymundo and Byron Villarias each scored 17 points for the Hawkeyes, whose 67-point winning margin went down as a league record.
Centro Escolar University also hogged the limelight by beating erstwhile unbeaten Batangas, 72-70, in the second game.
Rodrigue Ebondo finished with game-high 26 points and made the big plays down the stretch. He hit the go-ahead basket with 18.1 seconds left before blocking Joseph Sedurifa’s potential game-winner.
Cedrick Ablaza tallied 16 points and Jessie Saitanan added 12 for Batangas which picked up its first loss in three outings.
“The only reminder I told my chargers was that I wanted to see the discipline in our execution,” Cignal Coach Boyet Fernandez said.
The game was practically a no-contest, with Cignal’s reserves outscoring Gamboa Coffee Mix’s second stringers, 70-27. As a team, the Hawkeyes shot 52 percent (46 of 88), while the Coffee Lovers had a dismal 27-percent clip (19 of 70).
Raymar Jose scored 15 points, Jeremy Bartolo had 14 and Dan Sara added 10 for the Hawkeyes, who led by 10 after one quarter before pulling away in the second period.
Jason Perkins managed just nine points but cornered 10 rebounds, as Cignal battered Gamboa Coffee Mix, 61-38, off the boards.
The loss was the second straight for Gamboa Coffee Mix in three games.
Kenneth Acibar was the only Coffee Lover in double digit with 10 points.
