FLYING V look to stretch its winning run to three games when it battles Wang’s Basketball on Tuesday in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League Foundation Cup.
With a load of former pros in the lineup, observers believe the Thunder are a certified title contender. But don’t tell that to Coach Eric Altamirano, who claimed his charges still need improvement, specifically on defense.
“There’s no doubt that this team can play on offense. The thing I’m worried about is our defense,” Altamirano said.
The Thunders’ defensive acumen should be tested in the 12 noon encounter at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City against the Couriers, who play physical and works hard on both ends.
Jeron Teng, Gab Banal and Eric Salamat had a good game going for them in their first two matches with Flying V, but they will be having their hands full against the Couriers led by Michael Juico, Robert Herndon, Michael Sorela and Timothy Habelito.
“I think more than the other team, what we want is to improve on our game first,” Altamirano said.
The other game at 2 p.m. pits Cignal against AMA Online Education.
The Hawkeyes will be trying to get back on the winning track after its shock 66-65 loss to Marinerong Pilipino on Thursday to fall at 2-2 (win-loss) record.
“It’s a tough situation for us coming from a loss against Marinerong Pilipino, so our game against AMA will be a good character test for us,” Cignal Coach Boyet Fernandez said.
