MEMBERS of the national volleyball pool will clash in a novelty project, dubbed as “Clash of Heroes”, to raise funds for the foreign exposure of the Kuala Lumpur 29th Southeast Asian Games-bound squads.
The event kicks off its nationwide tour on April 28 at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Officials of the Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) launched the event in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.
“They will represent the country so the public should see their performance. This will be crucial as it serves as the basis of our coaches in choosing the 18 members of the team that will fly to Japan and South Korea next month,” LVPI Acting President Peter Cayco said.
The “Clash of Heroes”—a brainchild of members of the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee ZMedia Group—will also have stops in Cebu City on May 12 and Davao City on May 14.
Alyssa Valdez, Mika Reyes and Rachel Anne Daquis will lead the women’s pool, while Johnvic de Guzman, Ran Abdilla, Mark Alfafara and Peter Torres are among the standouts in the men’s side.
Cayco said the event will help hone the team members and create chem.
“If you scout other teams in Southeast Asia, they are already training hard for the coming SEA Games. Our ultimate goal is to be on top, so we should try to level the chance of our teams,” Cayco said.
The national pools have started training at the Arellano Gym with still incomplete rosters because some of the aspirants are still playing in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
