UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) faces University of Santo Tomas (UST) today, with both teams hoping to avoid elimination from the Final Four race in Season 79 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The winner of the 4 p.m. would find itself in a better position for the semifinals. UP and UST are toting identical 7-5 win-loss records.
Ateneo Lady Eagles (10-2), meanwhile, take on University of the East (1-11) at 2 p.m., with the Lady Eagles trying to avoid the upset ax, which the Lady Warriors have been wielding—yet to no success so far—in the second round of eliminations.
Ateneo and De La Salle are assured of the top-two spots for the twice-to-beat advantages in the Final Four. The Lady Eagles and the Lady Spikers clashed for the No. 1 spot in their second-round clash on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Maroons are coming off a morale-boosting 25-14, 25-27, 25-21, 25-12 win over National University last week, while the Tigresses will try to recover from a 23-25, 22-25, 21-25 setback to defending champion De La Salle last Wednesday.
UP skipper and playmaker Arielle Estrañero believes that her team is now more confident after their big win over NU and she hopes that the team would bring the momentum as they target the Final Four for the second straight year.
