ANGELES CITY, Pampanga—About P200,000 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, was seized, and a target-listed drug personality was arrested on Tuesday by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Luzon (PDEA RO3) in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Santo Rosario in this city.
Juvenal B. Azurin, PDEA director in Central Luzon, identified the suspect as Joey A. Avilar Jr., 28, and a resident of Barangay Pulung Bulu, Angeles City.
Azurin said Avilar was in the PDEA’s target list. He said the suspect is a notorious supplier of shabu in this city and in the city of San Fernando in this province.
“We had been monitoring the suspect’s illegal activity since January 2017. Luckily, we were able to pin him down after PDEA agents were able to negotiate with him for the purchase of 50 grams of shabu,” Azurin said.
Confiscated from the suspect were 50 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P200,000, buy-bust money and one blue motorcycle.
The suspect is now detained in the PDEA jail facility in Camp Olivas in the city of San Fernando. He will be charged for violation of Section 5 (sale of dangerous drugs) Article II of Republic Act 9165 is being readied for filing in court.
