BORACAY Island, Aklan—The payout for the third-quarter pension of indigent senior citizens in Western Visayas is now going on, said Harriete Yatar, social welfare officer I of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Western Visayas.
The third-quarter’s payout covers 59,692 senior citizens from the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Guimaras to receive social pension totaling to P89,538,000.
The release of the pension for the quarter started in July, though, through the door-to-door delivery of the PhilPost hired to do the service for this year.
Elderly who qualified to receive P500 monthly social pension from the national government are those 60 years old and above; sickly, frail and with disability; no regular source of income; no financial support/assistance from the members of the family; and no pension.
Including Negros Occidental, there are 78,706 seniors qualified to receive the social pension. The total budget for them for 2016 is P472,236,000.
