KASPERSKY Lab ZAO is collaborating with TÜV Rheinland to step up Asia-Pacific region’s railway industry cyber security, the Russian cyber-security firm announced in a statement on November 2.
The partnership would “enhance the safety of modern industrial systems, such as computer and communication train control [CBTC], automatic train control [ATC] and automatic train supervision [ATS],” Kaspersky Lab said.
Kaspersky Lab would facilitate in enhancing the safety and resilience of railway transportation in the region.
“Railways are the perfect example of modern industrial infrastructure: diverse, geographically distributed and complex,” said Sergey Gordeychik, Kaspersky Lab’s deputy CTO and head of Security Services. Close attention to information-technology security in its traditional form is required in the traffic safety of high-speed trains and modern rapid-transit systems, he noted.
“Our researchers have been paying close attention to railway cyber security, and we are happy to announce this new partnership that will help deliver intelligence and security services to a broad range of customers,” Gordeychik said. Under the collaboration, Kaspersky Lab and TÜV Rheinland would provide the railway industry in China and Asia Pacific with a full range of security and safety services, which include penetration testing, cyber-security assessments railway independent safety assessment and intelligence reporting, the statement said.
“TÜV Rheinland is a world-renowned technical service provider for third-party assessment and certification,”said Alvin Cheng, managing director for China at Kaspersky Lab. “We are very glad to cooperate with TÜV Rheinland to promote and apply our Kaspersky Industrial Cybersecurity solutions and intelligence service.”
Cyber security has become an important component of the railway industry, said Vincent Tan, vice president of TÜV Rheinland Rail Division for China and Asia Pacific. “When applied to specific industrial applications, such as railway systems, cyber security requires the deep knowledge of a broader threat landscape, together with applied intelligence on very specialized infrastructure,” he said.
“We expect the combination of Kaspersky Lab and TÜV Rheinland’s expertise to really help our customers become more resilient to current and future security and safety issues,” Tan said. Oliver Samson
