Malacañang has appointed lawyer Anna Rosario V. Paner as the new administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), according to official documents from the Office of the President.
“I am pleased to inform you that President Duterte has approved the nomination of [Atty.] Anna Rosario V. Paner as Administrator of the SRA,” the letter signed by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea to the SRA board of directors read.
Paner will replace Ma. Regina B. Martin as the agency’s chief and will serve the latter’s “unexpired” term of office that began on July 1, 2016, and will end on June 30, 2017, according to a separate document signed by President Duterte. Martin headed the SRA for six years.
There’s no specific date yet as to when Paner would start serving as chief of the SRA, according to the agency’s Planning and Policy Manager, Rosemarie Gumera.
In August Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol recommended the appointment of Ormoc City, Leyte-based Herminigildo Serafica of the United Sugar Producers Federation as SRA chief to President Duterte.
According to Bloomberg, Paner is a lawyer by profession, who cofounded the law firm Paner Hosaka & Ypil
Attorneys-At-Law.
Paner is currently the CEO and managing director of Victorias Milling Co. Inc. (VMC). She has been the company’s vice chairman of the board since
August 2014.
She has also served as a member of the Philippine Air Panel and Airline Advisers to various air-consultation talks. Paner received her Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University.
