ADDICTED, injured, and even physically and mentally ill people undergo rehabilitation or rehab to help them recover from addictions, injuries and illnesses. Thus, drug rehab programs are the most common types of it. As people become addicted, these rehab programs are set to provide the needed additional care and assistance for these patients.
“Drug rehab facilities help drug addicts prepare to re-enter society. Drug addiction often changes a person’s behavior, which can affect all aspects of his or her life, including work and relationships. In drug rehab, patients do their best to regain their normal lives in a safe and healthy way,” posted on an article written on www.rehabs.com.
Drugs patients who are poised to enter rehab centers don’t go as easy as they wanted. Before they will be able to go into a rehab facility, these patients may undertake a detox treatment. The upper mentioned article also defined detox as “the process in which a patient rids his or her body of the addictive substance”. It added that it usually takes about a week and is monitored by doctors and nurses. Once this treatment process is completed, he is now ready for rehab.
“Drug rehab treatment facilities help patients change their attitudes toward drugs. Many times drug addicts deny that they have an addiction and sometimes even claim that the drug is not harmful. The first step in rehab is to help patients get past this denial so that they can make an effort to change”, it added.
One of the important facets of healing in rehab is the commitment in recovery of the drug addicts and patients. Doctors, counselors and in-charge health professionals help out these patients to commit in making imperative life goals for themselves. Aside from patients and their families entrusting to themselves their impetus to strive harder and to achieve positive change in their lives, ‘they make long-term goals and then short-term goals that help them along the way’, www.rehabs.com added.
With regards to the former statement that denial is the initial problem, and to help them overcome it and make healthy choices, health professionals educate patients on the price tag and terrible effects of drug abuse and addiction. Patients find out how those effects affect their bodies and hopefully, they will be more motivated to make a change.
Moreover, Drug rehab treatment centers recommend regular individual counseling to patients. Regular in the sense that sometimes, these counseling sessions even take place in a daily basis. “Counselors help patients discover any emotional or psychological factors that may have contributed to their addictions”, www.rehabs.com also stressed. “It is important that these psychological factors are addressed if a patient is to make a full recovery.”
Alongside individual counseling, patients in rehab repeatedly partake in group therapy. “Patients with similar addictions meet together under the direction of a counselor. This allows them to form friendships and to have fellowship with one another. These close personal bonds aid patients on their road to recovery,” the website added.
“Patients in drug rehabs learn to recognize drug abuse triggers”, said the rehabs.com. These triggers may perhaps be emotional, physical, part of relationships, or merely part of their normal routines. It added, “Counselors and doctors help patients learn how to combat those triggers and get out of circumstances that may lead them to abuse drugs.”
“Once patients learn to recognize drug abuse trigger, they also learn the skills needed to cope with them. Counselors and doctors in drug rehab treatment facilities work with each other to come up with a personalized set of coping skills that the patient can use to prevent him or her from turning to drugs”, the website further underlined.
Additionally, “Counselors also rehab patients change their negative habits that are related to their addictions. This could include changing leisure activities or even changing aspects of the addict’s career or everyday life. The goal is to reduce the amount of stress and triggers in the patient’s life to keep him from relapsing.”
Moreover, doctors and medical professionals may take control and direct medications to patients to help them in their fast recovery. To manage physical and mental drug abuse triggers, patients can take medications.
Also, patients undergoing rehab treatment programs are encouraged to put an end on toxic relationships. www.rehabs.com defined toxic relationships ‘as those who have propensity to lead to drug abuse.’ Consequently, these patients are encouraged to seek help from other people who can support them on their journey. This circle of supportive relationships could include friends, families and even their co-rehab patients.
“Family members of rehab patients can seek drug rehab information by talking to the counselors and doctors at the facility. Friends and family members can help and support patients by learning about drug addiction. They may do this by participating in counseling sessions with the patient”, the website posted. “Counselors in rehab facilities can also teach family members and friends of patients how they can help. They can learn about the coping skills that the patients are learning, the different drug abuse triggers, and the best ways to show love and support”.
In some cases, when a patient becomes addicted, it can also negatively affect his family and friend. Subsequently, drug treatment facilities centers can provide counseling and healing procedures to their families and friends because patients can be best treated if their families also look for healing themselves.
“Drug rehab usually lasts 28 days, but it can take several months. The length of time a patient spends in the rehab facility depends on his healing progress. Doctors and counselors may suggest an early release for the patient, or they may request that the patient stay longer in the rehab longer than expected”, www.rehabs.com.
Lastly, for drug patients help remain drug-free and relapse, they may still choose to continue in receiving healing treatment procedures for their addictions even after they depart from rehab centers. It can be through visiting regularly a doctor to take control with physical symptoms or in an outpatient basis to improve coping skills. They may still attend group meetings after leaving the facility aside from love and support of their loved ones.

LOVE NOT WAR. Rehabilitation weans the addict away from drugs. However, it does not address the root cause of addiction. Drugs bring pleasure or oblivion to the user. Give him a reason to live.
