THE local unit of Lenovo Corp. announced the positioning of its ThinkPad Yoga 11e in the education customer segment as the International Data Corp. (IDC) maintained a lackluster forecast of the personal computer (PC) market.
Lenovo announced the market positioning of its notebook as IDC said it sees 152.5 million notebook units would be shipped this year and 154.5 million units by the year 2020.
“Commercial notebook growth is expected to peak at almost 5 percent during the forecast, while commercial-desktop shipments will return to flat growth,” IDC said in a statement issued on August 29. “In contrast, consumer shipments of both notebook and desktops are expected to decline throughout the forecast.”
The IDC sees a 0.3-percent compounded annual growth rate for notebooks from 2016 to 2020.
And while IDC sees detachable-tablet shipments continued to grow quickly, “growth is slowing from a peak last year and volume has been less than 14 percent of notebook volume so far this year. Commercial-notebook growth is expected to peak at almost 5 percent during the forecast, while commercial-desktop shipments will return to flat growth,” IDC said. “Combining detachable tablets with PCs, the market is projected to decline by 2.8 percent in 2016 with small positive growth in later years.”
Lenovo, nonetheless, believes the features of its ThinkPad Yoga 11e would attract buyers in the education-consumer sector. Some of these features include a rubber bumper with strengthened brackets to absorb shock in case the device is dropped.
