PRESTIGIOUS luxury property Thunderbird Resort & Casinos Poro Point in San Fernando pushes the envelope even further by building more facilities in its bid to affirm “Santorini of Asia” as the prime destination in the North and bolster tourism in La Union.
Thunderbird Poro Point broke ground on June 17 for 47 villas, among its newest additions, which will bring the total of its rooms to about 200. This is to respond to the resort’s good supply-and-demand problem and to accommodate the continuous increase in the number of guests in the resort and around these parts. All of these rooms and villas are Santorini-inspired and are all seen finished by the end of September.
Thunderbird Poro also developed its bevy of restaurants, with the newly opened deli Pianosa Café and the Asian-Mediteranean-themed Ouzo Restaurant in the resort’s casino. Expansion will also take place at its Agora Event Center, soon to be the biggest in La Union, one that can house 1,000 people.
The resort is building a semi-Olympic pool and restaurant that will be converted into a club to host theme parties. A 3-hectare plot will be transformed into a recreation facility where a 1,200-square meter clubhouse will rise punctuated by a driving range, tennis and basketball courts, a huge pond at the center of a green garden, as well as a romantic park clad with bamboo jogging paths.
“Thunderbird Poro Point will be a full-fledged five-star resort hotel as we complete all these amenities to give you a better Santorini experience,” Thunderbird Resort & Casinos President and Chairman Allee Sun said.
Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point, which has been operating for 10 years already, is a government-owned and -controlled corporation that stands on what used to be a 248-hectare American base. The property is situated on the Peninsula of Poro Point, backdropped by the panoramic West Philippine Sea and horizon. The entire property is themed Santorini, an island in Greece characterized by white and blue domes perched on a cliff facing the sea.
