THE top executive of local cloud-computing firm IP Converge Data Services Inc. (IPC) believes businesses in the Philippines are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of “digital transformation” (DX).
“By now, every businessman must have realized how a digitally connected workplace translates to better performance and higher engagement across the organization,” IPC President Reynaldo R. Huergas was quoted in a statement as saying. “Real-time access to vital information is necessary when making mission-critical decisions.”
However, Huergas said the country’s business sector as a whole has not really leveraged the potentials of information technology (IT).
“By embracing digital, the Philippine business sector has the potential to flourish faster and uplift the economy, in line with our country being dubbed as Asia’s Rising Tiger.”
Huergas’s statement came after the International Data Corp. (IDC) predicted that 60 percent of the top 1,000 enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region will have DX at the center of their corporate strategy by the end of 2017.
“From a technology perspective, the underlying architecture will be hybrid cloud,” IDC said. “Enterprises will deploy mobility, social, big data and analytics, machine to machine, Internet of things and industrial applications for their DX objectives.” However, IDC Asia/Pacific Datacenter Research Manager Glen Duncan Sr. sees DX is a “challenging” process. Duncan, nonetheless, sees a large portion of the business sector in the region committing to hybrid cloud architectures “will enable the pace of [DX] in the region.”
