The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) is set to conduct nationwide consultations with the private sector and other stakeholders this month, as the government body finalizes the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the Philippine Competition Act (PCA). The consultations will be held in Manila, Cebu and Davao from May 16 to 24.
The PCC earlier published the draft IRR of the PCA for the private and government sectors evaluation, and is welcoming feedback on the document.
In a news statement released on Thursday, PCC Chairman Arsenio M. Balisacan said the public consultations aim to disseminate information about the law, as well as the commission’s role in implementing the landmark legislation.
“On one hand, the consultations will help educate Filipinos on the provisions of the Philippine Competition Act, as well as on the vital role of the country’s newly created antitrust authority—the PCC—in pursuing consumer protection and in opening various industries to more investments,” Balisacan said.
Stakeholders and individuals have until May 25 to submit comments on the IRR.
The PCA identifies anticompetitive agreements, abuse of dominant position, and anticompetitive mergers and acquisitions in its coverage.
The final and approved version of the IRR, which will be released in June, will allow the PCC to fully implement PCA.
