THE D-Lite Plus 2, this newest addition to Happy Mobile’s roster of ever-affordable phones, reminds me of the first time I laid hands on the Samsung Galaxy S2, the first touchscreen phone that ever sat on the palm of my hands three years ago.
Used to then already passé analog Qwerty phone, I fiddled with the S2 and I remembered the exhilarating feel when the phone vibrated when I typed away on the pad. That was three years ago and 101 touchscreen phones later. As I held the D-Lite Plus 2, I whimsically regard the experience with the same profound sense of wonder as would a deaf, given a hearing aid, suddenly regard hearing for the first time: “Whoa! This is amazing!”
With its regal gold aluminum border greater than the sum of its parts, the dual-core D-Lite Plus 2 is a handy quantum-leap upgrade of its earlier version, especially when there is a more compact grip to it than its hard-core polycarbonate-plastic predecessor and with its 5-inch HD IPS display, 5MP (rear) and 2MP (front) cameras, Android Lollipop, 2000mAh battery, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of expandable ROM.
I had seen it, albeit rarely, in other mobile phones, but I have to admit a D-Lite Plus 2 feature, where one draws an equivalent letter on an idle screen to activate a utility, still gets me sometimes. More than, say, needing a camera pronto when I need it, sometimes I would sheepishly swagger by drawing a “C” on the screen when I feel somebody is looking just to make a show of it.
“Can you beat that?” sheepishly I would say. Whereupon I would imagine these people whimsically regarding my tech-savviness with a profound sense of wonder: “Whoa! It’s amazing!”
At P3,000 suggested retail price, it is for me.
