DE LA SALLE’S five-set loss to archrival and defending champion Ateneo on Sunday was another lesson learned for the Lady Spikers.
“It was a good lesson for us to correct our mistakes,” De La Salle Head Coach Ramil de Jesus said after their 25-21, 22-25, 16-25, 25-21, 5-15 setback to the Lady Eagles in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 78 women’s volleyball eliminations clash witnessed by 19,266 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena.
De Jesus lamented their 37 unforced errors, 13 more than the Lady Eagles.
“We had so many unforced errors. It was a big factor,” he said.
Those errors translated to an Ateneo side getting its momentum toward leveling their head-to-head matchup to 1-1 this season.
“We allowed Ateneo to get its confidence back. They were better focused starting in the second set,” he said.
Despite the loss, De La Salle (10-3) kept the No. 2 spot in the Final Four for a twice-to-beat advantage. Ateneo wound up No. 1 with a 12-2 card.
The Lady Spikers closed out the eliminations against a back-against-the-wall National University Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday.
