ONE is iconic, the other spanking brand new, but both are getting a technological sprucing up, so to say. On one hand, the iconic The Manila Hotel is said to be receiving technology from an equally old digital firm: Microsoft Corp. On the other hand, the two-year-old City of Dreams Manila would have the technology support from a younger telecommunications company: Globe Telecom Inc.
Manila Hotel
IN a statement last week, Microsoft Philippines Inc. said it has been chosen by The Manila Hotel to further upgrade the 103-year-old hotel’s standards.
“Technology plays a major role in offering world-class services to our guests,” The Manila Hotel Nian Liwanag-Rigor was quoted in the statement as saying. “That’s why we wanted to innovate to provide the right network and infrastructure, so that our guests are always connected.”
Aside from tech-related improvements specific for their guests, the organization also decided to employ more advanced solutions to increase employee productivity and mobility.
The need was further emphasized when the hotel’s server unexpectedly crashed and left the company in a state of panic. “We could not use our e-mail to communicate with employees, stakeholders and customers,” The Manila Hotel Assistant Vice President for Information Systems Daniel Cu said.

CITY of Dreams Manila, an integrated gaming and entertainment resort destination operated and managed by Melco Crown Philippines (MCP) Resorts Corp., recently obtained data center colocation and Internet services from Globe Business as part of its business continuity and disaster-recovery strategy.
The resort complex will outsource their data-management requirements and media storage to Globe Business, Globe Telecom’s information and communications technology (ICT) arm. City of Dreams’s operations will rely on the data center colocation service to keep each recorded and processed data safe in an offsite storage and a controlled environment, according to a statement from Globe Telecom. City of Dreams Manila Property President Geoff Andres said they tapped Globe Telecom to provide ways “to ensure that the standard of service that we offer stays the same in times of calamities with its best-in-class portfolio of ICT solutions.”
