SAN SEBASTIAN College clobbered Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 91-77, on Thursday to squeeze out of a four-game skid in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
The Stags, already out of Final Four contention, drew big numbers from Jamil Ortuoste and Spencer Pretta, who combined for 25 of the team’s 35 points in the pivotal third quarter.
Ortuoste fininished with a game-high 24 points on top of six rebounds, seven assists and three steals, while Pretta tallied a career-high 19 points built around five triples. Allyn Bulanadi finished with 17.
Francis Munsayac powered EAC’s cause with 21 points. Cameroonian slotman Hamadou Laminou contributed 20 points and 13 rebounds, and forward Sidney Onwubere had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Generals.
The Stags improved to 4-10 (won-lost), while the Generals remained in the cellar with a 2-12 card.
San Beda College Taytay, meanwhile, moved to within a win of clinching one of the twice-to-beat incentives in the juniors division after beating Lyceum Cavite, 90-79.
Sam Abuhije and Joshua Tagala scored 18 points each for the Red Cubs, who put the Junior Pirates’ (9-6) playoff hopes in doubt. In the other juniors game, San Sebastian defeated Immaculate Conception Academy, 84-83.
Michael Jabagat scored 18 points, while Patrick Daabay added 15 points and five assists for the Staglets (4-10), who sent the Brigadiers to their seventh loss in 14 games.
