INTERNATIONAL Business Machines Corp. (IBM) is collaborating with a local manufacturing-services provider for the development of its very own Internet of Things (IoT) platform.
Philippine-based firm Ionics will serve as a key design partner to ensure hardware is specifically configured to work with the IBM IoT platform.
This forms part of the global company’s initiative to tie up with industry partners and clients to come up with solutions customized to their specific needs.
“We’re excited to partner with IBM, because we believe that an efficient IoT solution should be built from the ground up—from chipset through services—is by far the best choice,” said Earl Qua, vice president of Ionics.
Also called the “Internet of Everything” or “Network of Everything,” IoT is the network of physical objects or “things” embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to allow objects to exchange data with the production, operator and/or other linked devices in accordance to the infrastructure of International Telecommunication Union’s Global Standards Initiative.
The platform for such of IBM is particularly designed to help organizations enhance engagement, accelerate innovation and improve operations. In so doing, its software for better handling of assets, operational risk management, predictive maintenance and managed continuous engineering will be complemented by Ionic’s vast experience in hardware specifications.
Together, they will provide organizations with enterprise-grade tools to achieve more value for their IoT devices.
