JOSAN NIMES returned with a bang and powered Mapúa past San Sebastian College, 87-78, on Thursday in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Nimes, who missed three games due to a hamstring injury, scattered 18 points, including eight in the fourth quarter that quashed the Stags’ late fightback and helped clinch for the Cardinals their sixth win in 11 games.
“I’m glad to be back helping the team,” said Nimes, who is playing his last season after he was picked 12th overall by Rain or Shine in the Philippine Basketball Association.
The game also saw the reemergence of Mark Brana, who notched his first double-double effort of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Stags fell to 2-9 (win-loss) and moved closer to elimination.
In juniors’ action, San Beda routed Jose Rizal University, 95-71, to extend its streak to 12 and Mapúa made it 2-0 over San Sebastian for the day, 86-64, to remain at No. 2 with a 10-1 record.
