The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced the resumption of its repair and strengthening works at the Magallanes interchange in Makati City.
The agency on Tuesday said the continuation of its works at the area started on August 21 with the removal and installation of expansion joints at Stage 1 which covers the Manila-Alabang segment.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the agency and the contractor J. D. Legaspi Construction has considered the project’s impact to vehicular traffic by working one lane at a time to keep the other lane open for public use.
Road repair clearance from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) allows the DPWH contractor to work on the structure on weeknights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The series of repair works done in stages at Magallanes Interchange that also includes the Ayala-Roxas Boulevard (Stage 2), Alabang-Ayala (Stage 3), Ayala-Manila/Alabang (Stage 4) and Roxas Boulevard-Ayala (Stage 5) which has an overall accomplishment of 82 percent will restore the structural integrity of the bridges for the safety of motorists.
To restore its structural integrity, retrofitting activities are also being applied on the road. These include epoxy injection on top and bottom of slab and application of glass fiber and skim coat at 2nd level structure for Stages 1, 3, and 4 and 3rd level structure for Stages 2 and 5.
The Magallanes Interchange is a four-level interchange in Makati City which serves as the junction between the South Luzon Expressway and Epifanio de los Santos Avenue since 1975.
