AUTODESK Inc., an American multinational firm that sells design software, has cited several avenues local information-technology (IT) players can tap for innovation and growth.
One of these is the Spark Investment Fund (SIF) which no Philippine company has applied for, according to Autodesk Philippines Country Manager Teddy D. Tiu.
“We would love to see someone from the Philippines take advantage of the fund,” Tiu said of the $100-million funding window for to spur innovation in three-dimensional (3D) printing and which Autodesk launched late last year. In April the company said California-based Carbon3D Inc. tapped into the fund and secured $10 million.
One way we’re working to spur innovation in a new industrial revolution is with the SIF, Tiu told the BusinessMirror in an e-mail-based interview.
Tiu explained this is the first of its kind for the 3D printing industry and will invest in entrepreneurs, start-ups and researchers who push the boundaries of 3D printing technology and accelerate the new industrial revolution.
“We encourage companies and individuals developing groundbreaking hardware, software, materials, marketplaces and maker spaces are encouraged to apply to participate in the SIF’s investment portfolio.” Tiu added his aspiration is based on the company’s belief its role is also to “help open doors for businesses of all sizes and industries to take their business to the next level.”
He also cited the firm’s Fusion 360 product the company is giving away free for start-ups, enthusiasts, hobbyists and students. Fusion 360 brings computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering and computer-aided manufacturing software together in the cloud, according to Tiu. It’s an integrated, connected and accessible platform built for the new ways products are being designed and made, he added.
“Fusion 360 is breaking down barriers and disrupting the CAD market, and I’d love to see more Filipino entrepreneurs and start-ups taking advantage of Fusion.”
