JAPANESE messenger app LINE has released its lightweight version in the Philippines that uses less storage space and data, providing a smoother user experience on all networks and smartphones in the country. Called “LINE Lite,” it delivers rich communication to areas where lower-end smartphones are mostly used and even to users with slower network connection.
This latest edition has less than 1 megabyte in size and installs in 1/20 the time of the standard version of the app.
Loyal and new users can still enjoy LINE’s main features of text, sticker and image-based communication.
They can sign up for new accounts on LINE Lite, or carry over their existing LINE accounts.
For its initial release, audio and video calls and features such as the Timeline are not included.
But LINE plans to actively introduce new features in the future.
As of April, this global service has been used by over 205 million users monthly in 230 countries and regions worldwide.
The LINE Lite app was also released last week in other 10 countries, such as Algeria, Cambodia, Colombia, Egypt, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Korea and Vietnam.
