COLLEGE: A time when young men and women bid adios to moderation and bonjour to nights of hugging dorm-room toilets.
Why? Because “college is like a fountain of knowledge and all the students are there to drink.”
How? Clubbing.
Clubbing is part of many college students’ routine, as well as the highlight of their week. Clubbing was accepted, as some people were better seen in drunken stupor rather than in crime scenes as assailants.
Among other things, here are some tips to ensure clubbing is enjoyable and clubbers like you make it home safe and sound for another great evening:
1 Carry light. Ditch the handbag. It won’t work well while on the dance floor—especially when you’re “in the moment.” Either you bring a palm-sized bag or have somebody hold the bag while you dance.
2 Be a Debbie Downer sometimes. Inviting people is cool: the more the merrier. However, avoid bringing people if you know he or she won’t get along or lacks tolerance.
3 Make sure you have moolah. Bring enough money but leave your life savings at home. Most clubs charge an entrance fee. If you’ll be taking a cab back, make sure you have enough cash. Take a mental note of how much you brought or put it on paper before you leave.
4 Check out the “hotties”. Going to a club/bar is the best excuse to check out hot bodies and master the art of flirting. Always return a smile, but be sure to respect personal space. Offer or accept an invitation to dance if you want to. But please, boys, never utter a pickup line.
5 Never pick up the same drink twice. Not that it’s wrong, but keep your drink close to you. Bring your drink wherever you go inside the club or buy another one. It may sound paranoid, but one will never know: better safe than sorry.
6 Deal with bad company. They could be a bitter ex-girlfriend, the overly chatty friend of a friend, an old guy who’s hitting on you, etc. If these people are cramping your style while still trying to work the crowd, deal with it, pronto. But never be rude: exit the conversation as gracefully as you can.
7 Quit while you’re ahead. After you already have some digits, tell her you’ll call and make your way out of the scene. Make sure you know what you are doing and the consequences of your actions. Hence, don’t drink too much: try sobriety or happy tipsiness.
The best part about clubbing and bar hopping, especially on weekends, is that you’re surrounded by friends and you can have a good time together.
It can give you a bump, allows you to meet strangers and go back to your house to be more intimate. The worst part about it is when you are surrounded by strangers who are unruly, annoying and get in the way, thereby ruining the very venue you’re trying to enjoy.
Nevertheless, you need to take some time off from life’s drudgery: “Live a little” as they say. You bought a new wardrobe for this particular event so you deserve to get down on the floor and have fun.
