CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—The city government has lined up various activities for the celebration of its annual fiesta.
Preparations are under way for the “Pyestang Fernandino” celebration. Themed “Balen a Masaya, Bie Masaplala,” the city presented the activities for the celebration of the patron saint of San Fernando in the whole month of May.
Pyestang Fernandino Chairman Ramon Cabral Jr. said the celebration began several centuries ago and has been a tradition in the city. “A fiesta is a Filipino tradition; it is our way of giving thanks for an abundant life. It’s a day of joy, merriment, peace as we celebrate the feast day of our saint, Saint Ferdinand of Castille,” Cabral Jr said.
The activities include the Pyestang Fernandino Street Party and Car Show, Agro-Industrial Trade Fair, Pyestang Tiangge, Flores de Mayo, Serenata at Polosa, Fernandinos Got Talent and the Mutya at Lakan ning San Fernando.
City Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan said they are supporting the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair, featuring the local products of the city. “We have 50 distributors participating in the fair, but we are supporting our women sectors, especially those who underwent livelihood trainings; and, also, we are promoting the One Barangay, One Product of Our city,” Pangilinan added.
Mayor Edwin Santiago said that having the Pyestang Fernandino is a way of promoting the culture and tradition of the city.
The news conference was attended by Mayor Edwin D. Santiago, Vice Mayor Jimmy T. Lazatin, Chairperson of Pyestang Fernandino Ramon Cabral Jr., Councilor Angie Hizon and Councilor BJ Lagman, Councilor Harvey Quiwa, members of the Pyestang Fernandino executive committee and Ching Pangilinan.
