THE US embassy in Manila, through the US Department of State’s American Music Abroad Program, brought Florida hip-hop group Dangerflow to the Philippines.
Over the weekend, the socially conscious group performed a series of mall shows at Robinsons Manila and SM North EDSA.
Dangerflow showcased its unique sound with Filipino rapper Loonie, a former crew member of the late master-rapper Francis Magalona. With performances and educational workshops supporting social causes, Dangerflow has a signature style that fuses hip-hop, rock and dance music with social consciousness.
They have collaborated with community-based organizations, government agencies and public schools to lead workshops and classes that raise awareness about issues facing youth today. In 2009 Dangerflow established a partnership with the Miami Heat to develop promotional videos and perform at games. The group’s debut album Win, Lose or Die was released in 2011 with popular singles featured on MTV and ESPN, as well as at the Monster Energy/X Games, NBA Finals and Australian Open Tennis Championship. The US Department of State’s American Music Abroad program promotes America’s rich contributions to the global music scene.
It fosters cross-cultural communication and people-to-people connections through cultural exchange programs, including concerts, lectures, workshops, jam sessions and media interviews. The winner of US Embassy Manila’s Facebook contest, Caloocan rapper Jose C. Morales Jr., a.k.a Ryke, also performed at the events.
