FIFTEEN companies recently joined a job fair in Manila, employing one-third of the registered applicants.
“If given the chance, I would be very happy to give every unemployed Manila resident the assistance to have a job,” Mayor Joseph E. Estrada said after seeing the results of the fair. “When a family member gets a job, of course, everybody is happy. [So] providing job assistance to the jobless is a passion [for me].”
During the job caravan conducted by Employment Regeneration Assistance Program (Erap)-Public Employment Service Office (Peso) Manila at the city hall, a total of 180 jobseekers participated in the event—60.55 percent were females and 39.44 percent were males.
According to Ellen C. Galang, Peso Manila officer in charge and senior labor and employment officer, 60 applicants were hired on the spot—32 males and 28 females.
She said they likewise assisted 121 applicants to reproduce the résumé and other documents they submitted to participating firms.
Apart from job opportunities and pre-employment services, the Peso Manila helped jobseekers on how to accomplish a good resume and gave them advice on proper conduct during interviews, Galang added.
Estrada said that, with decent, guaranteed and sustainable sources of income, his constituents will not only help themselves and their families meet their basic needs but also contribute to progress and peace in the city.
“If one has a job, she or he feels secure and confident, happy and not tempted to do bad things. If many are employed, they are of big help to reduce poverty and criminality,” he stressed.
The 15 companies that participated in the Erap-Peso Manila Job Caravan were 7-Star Man Power Service of the Philippines; Acabar Marketing International Inc.; Ace Promotion and Marketing Corp.; Asiawide Human Resources & Consultancy Corp.; Clean Car Global Phils. Inc.; Fieldmen Janitorial Services Corp.; Guaranteed Marketing Services Inc.; Fineco Management Corp.; Hardworkers Manpower Services Inc.; Mirof Resources Inc.; Philippine Survey & Research Center Inc.; Reliable Work Force & General Services Inc.; Smartjob Management & Employment Services; StarBoard Manpower Services Inc.; and TopServe Service Solutions Inc.
In the coming months, the local chief executive plans to hold an employers’ forum, wherein accredited companies that employed the most number of applicants from the past years’ job fairs will be recognized by the city government.
