The teachers of the law acknowledged that Jesus was casting out demons, but since they weren’t willing to believe that Jesus was the son of God and, therefore, working in accordance with God’s power, they had to draw another conclusion—it had to be Satan’s power.
They were seeking to discredit him with the people, convincing them that Jesus’ ability to do good works by the power of the Holy Spirit came from an allegiance with the devil. In so doing, they have clearly chosen their side for all eternity.
There are times in life when the offer of something new and better becomes hard to accept. Not because we don’t see the good but because man can be creatures of habit, and change can be a difficult thing to do.
There are times in life when we need to choose sides. Some of us don’t like that. We would rather try to straddle the fence or ride down the middle of the road, but there are certain times when we have to take a stand and choose our side.
Jesus unflinchingly stands before us as the image of unity, wholeness and integration. He is the stronger one. He does for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
He puts our lives and houses back in order. Jesus offers a different image of what life might look like. He does this by revealing the division in our lives, the houses that cannot stand, and families that fall apart.
In Christ, God creates a family that transcends beyond blood ties. We have unity in Christ because He has declared that we have. Now, that we are made His family, we trust in Him and do the will of His father. How? By believing in Christ and living in His love and divine mercy.
His love is eternally perfect even though we aren’t. United and together, we abide in His love as His family. Serving Him and serving others, until He comes again.
