THE elimination round of the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup is over with defending champion De La Salle being the last team to enter the quarterfinals stage that begins this Wednesday.
Yet, one player making a lot of noise that the Green Archers are still a force to be reckoned with is center Ben Mbala who was named the Best Player and Defensive Player of the Week by tournament officials.
Mbala tallied a total of 67 statistical points from 45 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal in De La Salle’s 93-77 thumping of Letran.
Joining the Cameroonian center in the Best Five of the Week are San Beda’s Robert Bolick Jr., who added a total of 37 statistical points to his name in the chase for the tournament Most Valuable Player Award.
Bolick led the Red Lions in sending Ateneo packing with an 82-67 victory that gave them eight wins in eight games played.
Far Eastern University’s RJ Ramirez and Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Sidney Onwubere piled up 30 statistical points to their total to join the Best Five while Arellano University Chiefs center Lervin Flores tallied 28 in his team’s swan song, a win over University of the Philippines.
Only Ramirez will join the post-elimination round party as FEU sits as the top seed of Group B. The Tamaraws will meet the Green Archers in the quarterfinals.
