A United States investment firm is pursuing its plan to put up a high-end hospital and wellness resort that offers various medical procedures anchored on stem-cell therapy in the country.
Global Private Funding, which sent a delegation to the Philippines in January led by its Chairman and CEO Dr. Sam Senev, is now looking around for possible sites in the country that will host its wellness resort.
It sent another delegation that included David Keller, president and CEO of Empyrean West, and Brian Bishop, president of First Point Energy Corp.
The group visited the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (Ceza), Tagaytay and some areas in Laguna, Pampanga and Cebu.
The delegation said it was more impressed with what Ceza has to offer, particularly the Cabo Engaño area in Santa Ana, Cagayan.
“Cabo Engaño has a very scenic coastline featuring mushroom islands, interesting landscapes and white-sand beaches where waves break almost a mile offshore. The delegation took note of the fact that roads and the power-distribution infrastructure were already in place and an international airport was under construction nearby,” the company said in a statement.
Bishop said that since the planned facility would require Global to also invest in ensuring reliable power supply, the choice of Cabo Engaño would result in an enhancement of the stability of the power grid in the free-port zone.
Global will have to integrate the new airport as well as a passenger terminal in Port Irene, the port within the free-port zone, to attract medical tourism.
“The Global delegation is convinced that these will contribute significantly to job-generation and economic development in the zone,” Keller said.
Ceza Administrator and CEO Jose Maria B. Ponce toured the delegates in the free port.
Global invests in and provides business-incubation services to the Global Institute for Stem-cell Therapy and Research (Giostar), a US-based firm with headquarters in San Diego, California. Giostar owns and operates the world’s first dedicated stem-cell treatment hospital with the most advanced on-site stem-cell laboratory.
Global’s Century City, Los Angeles, office was visited in late 2012 by Basilio M. Rodriguez Jr., CEO of Antheros Corp., to explore potential investments by Global in economic development in the Philippines.
In that meeting, Rodriguez reviewed Global’s hospitality investments and discussed engaging premier brands such as Hyatt, Dolce, Sofitel and Marriott, as well as boutique brands like Melia and Oberoi for new resort developments in special economic zones and other areas declared a priority by the Tourism Infrastructure and Economic Zone Authority of the Philippines.
