SAN MIG COFFEE and Rain or Shine clash on Sunday, with each team hoping to nail that “W,” that would enhance its chance of finishing at No. 2 for a better position in the quarterfinals of the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.
San Mig Coffee, second with an 8-3 record, and Rain or Shine, third with 8-4, face each other at 6:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. At 4:15 p.m., Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (7-5) takes on a fading Barako Bull (3-9).
With Talk ‘N Text almost guaranteed at topping the eliminations with its 11-2 record, the race for who will be No. 2 in the quarterfinals has been limited between the Mixers and the Elasto Painters.
A top-two position in the quarterfinals would mean a twice-to-beat advantage.
“This is our most important game. This will determine our future this conference. If we win, we’re still in the hunt for the top two,” said Elasto Painters head coach Yeng Guiao.
Rain or Shine is expected to bounce back from a 90-97 defeat to Ginebra in its last outing, while San Mig Coffee is looking at winning again after an 89-80 victory over Air21.
“On many different levels, Rain or Shine is always a challenge. We’ve played a number of significant games against them lately and this is another one because the winner will have the inside track at No. 2,” said San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone.
