GIVING recognition to women whose individual advocacy contributes to nation-building, The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) Foundation is now accepting nominees for its 14th search for women 21 to 45 years old whose achievements have served the country well.
TOWNS Foundation, in partnership with Metrobank Foundation and Metrobank Card, is encouraging people from the Visayas and Mindanao to nominate women who they think qualify in this year’s search.
TOWNS said any person, organization or entity may nominate one or more women who meet the criteria. Aside from age qualification, a nominee must be a Filipino citizen; distinguished in her field of specialization; has a well-balanced personality worthy of emulation; committed to the promotion of the well-being and upliftment of the Philippines and Filipinos; and possesses a pioneering spirit as evidenced by projects that she has initiated in the service of the country.
Aura Matias, a TOWNS volunteer, said they want to widen their search so that, as much as possible, they could see Filipino women from other regions given the chance to be recognized, especially from the Visayas and Mindanao, where only a few have been given the TOWNS award.
Matias, who is a TOWNS awardee herself, said only two in Mindanao and another two in the Visayas received the award since TOWNS was organized in 1974. To date, the award has been given to 149 women, mostly from Luzon.
“This time we hope there would be more exemplary women from south of the country who will be nominated and eventually be awarded the TOWNS,” Matias said.
TOWNS’s search is conducted every three years for the true role models for Filipino women and girls who wish to dedicate themselves to nation-building.
She said those nominated should have contributed positively to strengthening national capability and shaping the nation’s future and have served as catalysts for economic, social and cultural development, national security and national unity by providing their time, talent and resources.
Nominations shall be received by the TOWNS secretariat and forms may be obtained online (www.towns.org.ph) and submitted or mailed and must be received, postmarked or hand carried before Aug. 9, 2013.
Filled-up nomination forms can also be sent to any Metrobank branches nationwide or to Metrobank Foundation Office located at 4F Metrobank Plaza, Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City.
