THE Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) over the weekend started to adopt the Common Use Terminal Equipment System, a 2D bar code-reading system, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminals 1 and 2 to speed up the processing of travelers.

MIAA general manager Alfonso Cusi said this places the airport on a par with world-class air terminals. “We are shortening the business process at the airport by replacing the outdated technology with a more modern, efficient and effective system.”

Arinc Inc. won the three-year contract to supply, install, operate and be on a 24-hour, seven-day maintenance mode. The new system is expected to easily handle 4 million outbound passengers at Terminal 1 and 1.5 million outbound passengers at Terminal 2 annually, where there are 85 check-in counters and 15 boarding gates at Terminal 1 and 40 check-in counters and 15 boarding gates at Terminal 2.
