LABOR Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz on Monday urged students taking up college courses to explore “promising jobs” in the cyberservices industry, citing high salaries and an increasing demand for cyberservices workers.

She said the Career Guide 101 of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) listed cyberservices industry as the fast emerging sector with increasing manpower requirement. Salaries for entry level staff also range from P13,000 to P40,000 a month and may even reach P50,000.

“High-demand and high-paying jobs in the cyberservices industries include Web developers, network engineers, computer programmers, program analysts, systems analysts, technical support representatives and software engineers, among others,” said Baldoz.

The labor chief also said jobs at the cyberservices sector also require a short period of study, among which, are online Web marketing (search engine operation), online copywriting (content writing), legal transcription, online office suite, Web development solution and technical drafting.

“It takes only three to six months of apprenticeship/learnership to obtain knowledge and skills about these jobs, but I advice job seekers who are armed with these courses to train, pick up very good communication skills, and a serious work ethic to be able to land a job,” she pointed out.

The department’s 101 Career Guide is a comprehensive list of 101 careers that would lead to jobs identified to be in demand within the next 10 years in the country’s key employment generating sectors.

Various sectors with huge job opportunities include agribusiness; health and wellness; hotel, restaurant and tourism; mining; construction; banking and finance; manufacturing; ownership dwellings and real estate; transport and logistics; (wholesale and retail trade and overseas employment).
