FROM time to time, we experience distractions that put to a temporary halt the flow of our normal routines. Some distractions can bring unnecessary stress in our lives, while others can even be considered “good” distractions.
In such glamorous but dog-eat-dog jungles like show business and modeling, the distraction stories can often be interesting, if not totally amusing. Some of these stories help us get to know a little bit more about the subjects we like to read about, their strengths and weaknesses, and the stuff they are made of.
Take, for instance, boxing champ and congressional representative Manny Pacquiao’s stand on the controversial reproductive-health bill that encountered a major distraction. While his team of researchers, speechmakers and advisers do their respective homework to add more “pogi points” to a much revered boxing champ, no one remembered that his former saleslady-turned-Hermès bag collector wife once said in an interview that she patronizes birth control pills.
Oh my! I bet Pacquiao and his team got a major-major distraction when that piece of truth emerged. His followers definitely got distracted, too, wanting to find out if their boxer-politician idol truly and sincerely walks the talk. But since he is adulated and admired like some sort of a demi-god, he got away with it, reasoning that wifey took the pills a long, long time ago.
Young mama
FOR the past year, some of our young and promising actresses got sidelined because of very personal distractions involving either love or libido. Roxanne Guinoo got pregnant, nipped her rising career in the bud and decided to just play the role of a young mother.
Sunshine Dizon also got pregnant and gave birth recently. Same with Max Eigenmann, who recently gave birth to a baby boy, whom she named Massimo Lucien. Max had to give up lucrative movie contracts from Jakarta and Malaysia because of this unexpected and unplanned pregnancy. She is quick to say though that she has no regrets and every baby is a blessing.
Newly married couple Oyo Boy Sotto and Kristine Hermosa have confirmed that they are expecting their first baby. Hermosa, almost two months pregnant, will take a leave of absence from work while she awaits the birth of her baby. “I don’t want to be distracted by anything in my preparation to become a mother,” she said.
So you want to be a lead actor?
WE heard that Laguna Gov. ER Ejercito is planning on a major comeback as an actor. Known for his contravida roles in the early ’90s, ER is the son of George Estregan, the late brother of former Philippine President Joseph Estrada. He retired from acting and focused on politics. He has four children now.
ER has tapped the services of filmmaker Tikoy Aguiliuz to direct two movies, Asiong Salonga and the biopic of Emilio Aguinaldo, both of which will have ER playing lead actor.
Just asking: wouldn’t these big-budgeted movie projects serve as distractions for ER in his role as provincial governor? And we didn’t realize that he has so much extra money to be able to produce films that will feature him in the lead role.
Love gone wayward
There is also a major distraction in the life of young actress Andi Eigenmann. Because of Twitter, there is now a big controversy involving Andi and former boyfriend Albie Casiño, who allegedly labeled his former girlfriend as a “cheater.”
People who know them both are saddened by these developments. People close to them are more confused because they say that she has been going out with Jake Ejercito, the son of Estrada and Laarni Enriquez, for some time now. Such are the complexities of young love.
Another couple that got the curse of tweeting is Mo Twister and Rhian Ramos. We cannot comprehend why these two lovers, who ostensibly have good breeding, would resort to such controversial and unnecessary romantic complications.
Another complicated love story involves GMA starlet Iwa Moto, who created a big chase scene with her (supposedly ex) boyfriend inside the Kapuso Network compound recently, which led to not just distractions but more complications. Moto reportedly downed a big chunk of slimming pills in what others call a suicide attempt.
The ostensibly incident stemmed from the embarrassment Moto might have felt because of the cheap chasing scandal she did, something that also caused her a few physical injuries when she fell on her knees and slammed her fist on the window of her boyfriend’s car.
Interviewed lately, the starlet debunked rumors that it was a suicide attempt. “Na-stress lang po ako!” Whatever, sister!
