Powerade’s Gary David emerged as the best scorer after the elimination phase of the 2011 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup.
The athletic wingman out of Lyceum averaged 20.79 points per game to lead the field that also included two rookies in the Top 10.
David, who tallied a career-high 42 points in the Tigers’ 108-94 victory over Petron Blaze, was one of the major reasons Powerade was able to hold on for the last quarterfinal seat in the All-Filipino tournament.
Two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) James Yap ranked second in scoring with 18.57 ppg. He was followed by Boosters’ all-around forward Arwind Santos (18.21) and rookie Chris Lutz (18.00), Meralco’s Mark Cardona (16.20), Barako Bull’s Willie Miller (15.86), Petron guard Alex Cabagnot (15.86), Tigers neophyte Marcio Lassiter (15.5), Sonny Thoss (15.36) of Alaska and Rain or Shine sniper Jeff Chan (15.14).
Santos, the Best Player of the Conference in the Governors’ Cup last season, emerged as the king of the boards. The former Far Eastern University lanky forward averaged 12.71 rebounds per game.
Talk ’N Text’s Harvey Carey was second with 11.16 rpg, followed by Elasto Painters’ Doug Kramer (10.57), Bolts veteran center Asi Taulava (10.21) and Aces mobile center Jay-R Reyes (10.07).
Cabagnot was the top playmaker after the 14-game elimination phase with 7.12 assists per game. Jimmy Alapag, the reigning Most Valuable Player, was second with six dimes per game, followed by top pick JV Casio (5.54) of Powerade, LA Tenorio (5.43) of Alaska and Tropang Texters speedy guard Jayson Castro (5.15).
Lutz, the No. 3 overall pick, surprisingly led the steals category with 2.28 per game, beating former master theft Wynne Arboleda (1.71 spg) of the Energy who ended up second. Miller was No. 3 at 1.61 spg followed by Lassiter (1.5) and Sol Mercado (1.5) of Meralco.
Japeth Aguilar, the six-foot-nine, high-leaping forward of Talk ’N Text, was the king of swats after the eliminations as he averaged 2.36 blocks per game.
The former Ateneo standout was followed by Santos (1.5 bpg), teammate Ali Peek (1.5), Thoss (1.28) and JR Quinahan (1.28) of the Elasto Painters.
