A report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the capital region said on April 15, the installed nine-meter high elevator core wall steel/rebar assembly at the Belle Grande Resort worksite accidentally tilted after their harness snapped due to strong wind.
According to the report, four steel men were working at the site during the accident, two of them—Mauricio Mollejon and Rommel Tan—sustained minor injuries, while the other two workers were not harmed as they were wearing full body harness.
Director Raymundo Agravante of the DOLE NCR said in his report that while the investigation showed no violation of the occupational safety and health standards in the construction site, it is timely to remind construction companies to keep their workplaces safe and healthy to avoid injuries, even death to workers.
The Belle Grande Resort and Casino is a project of Megawide Construction Corp. with 250 workers.
The Labor department reminded the company that based on the Department Order 13 in 1998, it is the “sole responsibility” of DOLE to administer and enforce occupational safety and health laws, regulations and standards in all establishments and workplaces wherever they may be located.
