Hewlett-Packard has unveiled the industry’s first complete consumer lineup of touch-enabled printers powered with HP’s new TouchSmart user interface.

This touchscreen technology makes it easier for consumers to conveniently display, edit and print photos as well as copy, scan and print documents. The HP Photosmart All-in-One printers with TouchSmart technology are also designed to push HP’s “print leadership and commitment to innovation in the consumer segment,” company executives said.

The expanded Photosmart portfolio features a one-touch wireless setup, a sleek new piano-black design and up to 30 percent reduced energy consumption compared with previous models in the HP Photosmart line.

These new Photosmart printers are designed to meet the growing consumer demand for touch technology in devices other than mobile phones and computers.

“Since HP introduced its first consumer touchscreen printer in 2006, our research and development teams have drawn from extensive customer insights and leading-edge touchscreen technology to develop a new TouchSmart user interface that will make everyday printing easy and enjoyable,” HP Philippines country general manager for imaging and printing Jenny Sotto-Siquioco said. “More importantly, we will be leading the industry in making Touchsmart technology available on our full lineup of new HP Photosmart printers.”

A key innovation using TouchSmart technology across HP’s new line of Photosmart all-in-one printers is called the “Magic Frame.” This patented touch panel technology “provides consistency, value, and ease-of-use across the portfolio” Siquioco said. “With the touch of a finger, the screen maximizes the size of the touch area by including contextual buttons that light up only when relevant to the user.”

She also said that “from a design perspective, the sleek, piano-black finish and graphical accents on the Photosmart printers’ exterior and touch displays complement the most recent personal computer and notebook [computer] lines. [This takes] seamless connectivity one step further.”

Siquioco also said all of HP’s new printers today “contain a host of practical features that help reduce the environmental impact of printing as part of the HP Eco Solutions program. All are Energy Star-qualified, eliminate waste with Smart Web Printing and carry the HP Eco Highlights label, which summarizes features such as reduced energy consumption and ease of recycling.”

She added that Mac operating system (OS) X v10.6 Snow Leopard users “will enjoy full the functionality of their current and future HP Mac-compatible peripherals, including print functionality for all of the products introduced today as well as scan support for the latest HP inkjet all-in-ones built into the OS.”
