The following accounts the author’s reason why UP students all over the country should vote ‘NO’ in the referendum.
What is the Student Regent?
The Student Regent is the sole representative of all students from the whole UP System to the Board of Regents, the highest governing and policymaking body of the University.
Why is the Office of the Student Regent important?
The Student Regent is our only voice in the Board composed mostly of administrators, government-appointed representatives, and ex-officio members.
One can argue that the Student Regent is just one vote. But the real power of the Student Regent does not depend on his or her one vote; the Student Regent’s power is his or her access to official University records and his or her persuasive power using the threat of student action.
What is the Codified Rules for Student Regent Selection?
The Codified Rules for Student Regent Selection (CRSRS) is a body of guides in choosing and qualifying the Student Regent.
When the Office of the Student Regent was created in 1987 by virtue of Executive Order No. 204-A, he or she was selected by an alliance of student councils called the Katipunan ng mga Sangguniang Mag-aaral sa UP (KASAMA sa UP).
This mode of selection existed until 1996, when several student councils led by the University Student Council of Diliman opposed the selection process because it was undemocratic: A nominee for Student Regent must believe in the principle that the Philippine Society is ‘semi-feudal and semi-colonial’ – a belief not shared by most student councils.
The following year, the General Assembly of Student Councils (GASC) was created with the task of selecting the Student Regent. The CRSRS was also approved to guide the student councils in the selection process.
What is the Referendum?
The new UP Charter (Republic Act no. 9500) stipulates that there must be “One Student Regent, to serve for a term of one (1) year, chosen by the students from their ranks in accordance with rules and qualifications approved in a referendum by the students” (Section 12, Paragraph 1g).
Accordingly, the Office of the Student Regent will be conducting a Systemwide referendum on 26-31 January 2009. The referendum question, answerable by ‘Yes’ or ‘No’, is worded as follows –
Do you approve of the existing Codified Rules for Student Regent Selection (CRSRS) as rules and qualifications to govern the selection of our student representative to the UP Board of Regents? (Emphasis mine)
Should we vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum?
No. A vote of ‘Yes’ will only institutionalize the flaws of the existing CRSRS, which are the following: (1) nominees for Student Regent do not need to satisfy any standard of good academic standing (Article III, Section 2); (2) KASAMA sa UP continues to enjoy any status by mere mention of its existence in the CRSRS (Article V, Section 3); and (3) basic tenets of democracy are violated because there is a disproportionate allocation of votes among units of the University (Article VIII, Section 10).
Does a vote of ‘No’ abolish the Office of the Student Regent?
No. Common sense dictates that the Office, since it is established by statute, can only be abolished by another statute.
What will happen if the ‘No’ votes win?
At this point, we can only speculate. But in the event that a ‘No’ majority emerges, it will be necessary for the Office of the Student Regent to undertake the following actions:
(1) The incumbent Student Regent must continue exercising the duties of her office in a hold-over capacity;
(2) The Office of the Student Regent must conduct another referendum, subjecting an amended CRSRS to the referendum. But conditions must be met before another referendum is conducted: (a) the GASC must convene a regular session to amend the CRSRS, (b) the Office of the Student Regent must conduct wider and longer consultations and information dissemination activities, and
(3) the Office of the Student Regent must be transparent with all the records of the discussion, and allow any student to view all documents related to the CRSRS and the GASC either through the Internet or through other convenient channels.
Vote ‘No’ on 26-31 January 2009!
regarding post http://attyatwork.com/allowing-absolute-divorce-in-the-philippines/
and continuing from a comment I made....
As talked about in the comment just previously (author = kimdy), it really does matter whether a marriage is legally divorced or not because the spouses will seek their division anyway. See how kimdy talked about splitting her living time between parents. Legally married or not, broken marriages do not make a whole family in any case.. A strong argument can be made that the inability to get a divorce makes a broken family and/or marriage worse than if a divorce could be made.
Under the above mentioned....”arguments against the legalization of divorce are contained in the Position Paper of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) against these bills. The highlights are: “ each one of these arguments are easily shown as having little base to stand on.. in fact, their own arguments are easily used to defend legalization of divorce.
“1. The proposal to legalize absolute divorce with the right to remarry violates relevant international instruments on human rights, particularly Article 16(3) of the United Nation Declaration of Human Rights.”
This should fall on deaf ears since this article 16(3) states “(3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State. “
It says the family should be protected by society and state. The opposite of protection is what actually happens with no divorce in the Philippines. Wives get battered and hurt, some men have 2nd and 3rd or more wives along with original legal wife, children are forced to live with constant fighting between parents, legal wife with kids are often abandoned by the father so he can cohabit with a different woman, families have to accept father's dealings with mistress(s), etc. All this and more does not make a whole and happy family, yet each circumstance often happens while a couple remains legally married. A legal divorce could rectify much of this...or at least allow each party a somewhat normal life and better chance for happiness in the future.
"2.The innocent spouse and the children in most cases may suffer economic difficulties. Aside from being abandoned by the guilty spouse, the innocent spouse and children, in most cases, will suffer untold economic difficulties. The divorced spouses who will remarry will have to maintain another family of their own."
Divorce allows for all parties to survive economically due to divorce laws and court outcomes forcing the major breadwinner to pay alimony and/or child support. Having no divorce protects the major winning bread winner by allowing him or her to not help the other spouse and children financially. Many broken marriage circumstances find the man abandoning the wife and children...leaving them economically unable to survive. i.e. man leaves wife for mistress, man leaves original family for another family, etc. each case makes it easy for the major bread winner (usually the man) to not fulfill his responsibilities to his wife and family.
"3.The human rights of the innocent spouse is violated. The guilty spouse in the divorce case is allowed to abandon or neglect his obligation to provide company and care of the innocent spouse and the children, thus violating Article 68 of the Family Code which reads: “The husband and wife are obliged to live together, observe mutual love, respect and fidelity and render mutual help and support.”
A divorce law would take into account all parties....especially the children. Divorce law would work most for the care of the children. Actually, as I have stated above, having no divorce already does allow abandonment and neglect...usually the man against the wife. This happens everyday in many cases. Using article 68 as a basis for this argument ignores reality. In most cases of a broken marriage ...husband and wife don't live together, have no mutual love, respect or fidelity and don't render mutual help and support.
"4.Irrespective of any religious beliefs, divorce of spouses with right to remarry constitutes a grave offense against a natural law. Divorce is unnatural and immoral as it causes disorder in the family and society. Because of its contagious effect in society, it becomes a plague on society. A divorce invites another divorce. The innocent spouse who has not contravened any law is unlawfully deserted."
Who defines what “natural law” is? The government? The president? The catholic church? probably all of the above...yet they have no authority to claim they know what natural law is. Let's not talk about it being irrespective of religious beliefs because we all know the Catholic church enforces their view for all of the Philippines citizens...haha, except for muslims. I forgot ....they are allowed to divorce because it is a part of their religion. It's funny they are allowed divorce yet other non-catholics are not.
Okay lets talk about contagiousness and plagues. Is it not contagious and plaguing for many men to have mistresses...2nd...3rd or maybe more “wives” How does this affect the Filipino family? For the better? I think not....and if there were divorce, spouses could avert this nonsense by getting rid of their husband...now, they have to live with it.
The innocent spouse??? The innocent spouse would be the one needing the divorce..haha she or he would want to be deserted...better than being held prisoner inside a thankless marriage. And, if it is the wife, she can get financial support even she is the one filing for divorce. Even if she is not, the court looks at both parties in wrong. In any case, the court sees to it that the children are supported.
"5.Absolute divorce is destructive of the family as a social institution mandated under the Constitution. One of the basic policies of the State, as declared in the principles of the Philippine Constitution reads: “The State recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous social institution. It shall equally protect the life of the mother and the life of the unborn from conception. The natural and primary right and duty of parents in the rearing of the young for civic inefficiency and the development of moral character shall receive the support of the government.”(Article 11, Section 12) The relevant constitutional provisions will have to be amended before the divorce bills will be enacted into law."
Even more destructive to a family is holding all hostage under a broken unrepairable marriage. Does protection for the family under the constitution mean forcing a wife to stay “imprisoned” in a marriage to a man that abuses her? Does protection mean keeping children in a family where parents fight daily both physically and audibly? Does “strengthen” for the family mean allowing a man to have a second, third or even more “wives”? Does “protect” mean protecting the man from having to financially support his wife and children after abandoning them for some female tramp?
"6.Absolute divorce violates the concept of marriage, a permanent union of man and woman. The Family Code defines marriage as a permanent union of man and woman (Art. 1). The Civil Code also provides for the presumption of the solidarity of the family and the indissolubility of marriage bonds (Art. 220)."
Simple! The code fails to observe reality of many marriages and families in the Philippines.
Having no divorce in the Philippines does not mean all families are whole. Having no divorce law might look good on paper but has no basis in reality. It is a symptom of a government that has blinders on...or maybe a sign that a mostly male government legislature desires to protect many males philandering ways.
Please government...open your eyes, stay out of the Catholic church's pockets, observe today's family, watch how many young opt to live together yet not get married, see how many wives get hold prisoners in thankless marriages,

Where is the site for The Knightsbridge Residences?
The Knightsbridge Residences will rise within the mixed-use development called Century City on Kalayaan Avenue, in the heart of what is now being called "MoMa," or Modern Makati.
Why should I choose Makati as a residential location?
Makati is long renowned as the epicenter of Philippine social, cultural and financial activity. It is constantly evolving and reinvigorating itself, transforming into a true megalopolis that is poised to compete with other urban centers all over the world.
Choosing Makati by making your home at The Knightsbridge Residences is therefore the best investment you can make, as your residence will be situated on the last remaining large piece of prime real estate in the country's premiere financial and business capital.
Makati is also home to a total of 62,878 establishments, including 461 head offices of banks, over 30 major IT companies, 27 contact centers, four historic churches, over 100 educational institutions, five-star hotels, the biggest and most upscale shopping malls and entertainment centers, and the country's most exclusive villages.
What is Century City and what are the advantages of being in this location?
Being located within Century City means you are just a short walk or an elevator ride away from everything you need-retail stores, dining and entertainment facilities, banks, pampering services, relaxation and recreation amenities and more-all of which are just located at the Lifestyle and Entertainment Center.
And because Century City is located in the heart of Makati, the country's premiere financial and commercial district, you are guaranteed easy access to major banking establishments, hotels, villages, shopping centers, coffee shops and restaurants and schools.
Why is the project called The Knightsbridge Residences? What is its inspiration?
The Knightsbridge Residences at Century City takes its name after the most expensive neighborhood in London, Knightsbridge.
It is the luxury, prestige, central location and rich history of Knightsbridge in London that has inspired the creative team of Century to develop a high rise that would be the confluence of old-world Europe and cool Britannia.
What differentiates the project from other condos out there?
The Knightsbridge Residences is the first residential building to ever attempt the execution of Hypersized amenities. These are large designer convergence areas that effectively multiply the dimensions of your home.
With hyper-sized common areas that serve as "extensions" of your unit, the building is transformed into a true Vertical Village that nurtures community and interconnectivity among its residents. It is where your home extends beyond the four walls of your condo unit.
What is the general description of the architectural design of the project?
The Knightsbridge introduces a sleek and future-oriented curvilinear design that is both iconic and breathtaking. The tower is designed to be a landmark, and is oriented to maximize views of the Makati skyline, Rockwell, Ortigas and Fort Bonifacio.
How would you describe the lobby of the building and its special features?
The lobby and common areas of the building, particularly The Podium Level amenity floor will be designed by Hong Kong-based International Leisure Consultants (ILC).
The fully-attended lobby will carry a modern London-inspired design and will have white-glove doormen, concierge service, superintendent and porter services.
As another innovation in building design, Century Properties introduces the Lantern concept at The Knightsbridge Residences. These unique architectural features are comprised of stacked special residential units with dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows that create iconic, sparkling glass boxes-a truly distinguishing feature and a shimmering beacon in the city, especially at night. Where will the amenities be located?

China has asked its ISP's to block Google.com search from accessing. The reason behind this bold step is that, the country, China has warned Google twice to stop showing illegal content such as porn, casino and other offensive sites to its chinese users, but still Chinsese people are easily accessing porn sites and other illegal contents.
Asked Google.ch, they said we have already blocked access to illegal sites to Chinese people but we can't stop them from accessing it through Google.com that is US search data base. Chinese people can easily switch to Google.com (US english version) from Google.ch( Chinese version). According to some news source China has already blocked whole of Google search from accessing to its chinese citizens.
Chinese government is very strict when comes to rules and regulations and they now want to curb web too in order to protect minors and families. "Is that a good sign for web companies"? I think a big NO. The big news is also flowing in that US government has asked its software making firms to build a computer software which blocks gambling and porn sites by default and Microsoft is proceeding towards that goal. This is
totally messedup....
Google recently confirmed that their famous video site, Youtube.com has been blocked by China. No explanations were given by the Google company that why China blocked access to youtube site.
Google company's spokesman, Scott said that "Youtube was blocked by China from Yesturday itself, we are waiting to hear from Chinses authorities as to why they have blocked access to the site to Chinese users".
China is a very strict country in terms of law and this is not the first time they have blocked a web portal, in many recent cases they have blocked porn sites, gambling sites and other offensive sites to protect public interest and minors.
A spokesperson from Google.ch ( Google China ) stated that they have no clue as to why youtube was being blocked by China.
Months later , Youtube published a video where Chinese policemen were foud beating to death a pro-Tibet demonstrator near Lhasa. There were some other videos shown on Youtube site which were totally againts the Chinese government and confidential.
Home Winemaking requires a significant input of effort, resources, and patience. So when the time comes for you enjoy your precious vintage you want to be sure that your investment pays off. You will have a much greater chance of success as a home vintner if you learn the mistakes to avoid when making homemade wine.
First Mistake
Often occurs right at the start by new winemakers failing to select and follow a reliable recipe. If you want the best possible results then you should follow the instructions of the experts. This is not the time for improvisation.
Second Mistake
Inadequate or wrong equipment is often the cause of problem homemade wine. If you are new to making homemade wine it is essential that you invest in the proper equipment. Avoid using household items and doubly avoid household items that have been used to prepare or store other foods. It is best for anyone who is serious about homemade wine to purchase specialist equipment from winemaking retailers.
Third Mistake
Poor sanitation is regularly the culprit of disappointing wine. Although making wine from home is great fun it is also a precise science that should be conducted in a controlled environment. Sterile conditions are essential and you shouldn't take shortcuts with the proper preparation of your tools and containers.
Fourth Mistake
Incorrect yeast activation can adversely affect your wine production. Ensure that you use special vintners yeast and strictly adhere to the activation instructions. Temperature control is vital because if the yeast is too hot the cells will be killed and fail to activate. If too cold, yeast cells can slow down or even fall dormant thus hampering the fermentation process. Worse still, cells could reactivate later on and start re-fermenting your wine at the wrong time.
Fifth Mistake
The proper management of sugar levels can make or break your wine. With your hydrometer you should first monitor your sugar content to ensure that it is at a level compatible to your wine yeast. If the sugar is too high your homemade wine yeast might not be able to convert it all to alcohol and you will be left with residual sugar. Sugar content will determine the eventual alcohol content. No wine should be higher than 14% alcohol. Somewhere between 9% and 12% is probably best to aim for.
Sixth Mistake
Vinegar instead of wine will cause major disappointment to any winemaker and is the result of oxidation. Oxidation will take place if acid levels are not properly checked. Keeping your must free of contamination by rogue yeasts and bacteria and keeping the bottles full can help prevent this mistake. The use of Campden Tablets is also used to combat this problem.
Seventh Mistake
Sediments can spoil your homemade wine. Mistakes with your racking can lead to too much sediment entering the wine. You should only siphon the top part of the wine and leave the bottom layer where unwanted material has settled. Your must should also be kept still to prevent sediments being stirred up and entering the wine. This is also important in storage of the wine after it has been bottled. Store your wine somewhere that it won't be disturbed and is free of vibration to prevent any sediments interfering with the successful maturation of the wine.
Eighth Mistake
Haste has been a catastrophe for many homemade wines and a mistake that is both easy and common for the homemade winemaker to commit. Successful winemaking comes with being able to apply the necessary amount of patience. From the first fermenting stage through to the final maturation, wine should be given the right amount of time to complete it's complex phases. One of the biggest mistakes to avoid when making homemade wine is interfering when you should be patiently waiting while science and nature does all the work.

In the Bible, great men became who they are because of FAITH. Every inch of their strength came from their faith from God.And they were there not just to give us something to read about but they were there to show us the examples of the power of FAITH. From Abraham to present, they all did it because of FAITH.
So you maybe asking, what's the connection of being a millionare with Faith?... Well, pratically everything!!! If you have read all my post from start (Is it Possible?) up to the latest ( Change of Enviroment) it will all come down to ONE thing and that thing is called "Faith." Everything you do right now, is related to your Faith and it doesn't even matter if you believe it or not, were are all moved by it. For example, you cling into your job wishing and hoping and even trusting your boss that you can get a raise and become rich, well thats faith, you have faith in the company and you have faith in your work, eventhough you are not sure that it will make you rich. Another example is, you are a bum, but you believe and trust your self that maybe you'll find out a way to become filthy rich, well you may or may not. It depends on how much you have faith in it and you act on it. I'm not saying that you should just sit down and relax and let faith do all the work, well thats not faith, thats lazyness. The thing is "IF YOU HAVE FAITH YOU'LL ACT IN FAITH."
The reason why most people don't get their dreams is because they live not by faith but they sadly live in FEAR. Fear feast on our very spirit, the spirit to LIVE LIFE. Most of the people live and act in Fear, If you live in fear you act in fear. Fear makes people slaves, it builds walls that stop us from doing the thing that we love or doing our VERY PURPOSE IN LIFE. Let me give you an example, You want to have a "Big Business Empire of Everything" but you can't do anything to reach it becuase you focus on things that's not related to it, like your work, earning extra meager cash to pay the bills, so busy thinking of ways to pay off the debts instead of thinking ways to start your Empire. You see, your are trapped by fear, you stop focusing on those things becuase you are afraid to live below your means, you're afraid that people will get angry if you didn't pay them on time, etc. Look at your self, fear thrives in your very existance!!!!
"Fear forms from inside, So does FAITH"
by Martin Reyes
We can't get rid out fear, it will always be around us, but the good news is we can act inspite of it, we can get our dreams and live the life we want inspite of fear, and that's called FAITH. David challenged Goliath and destroyed him, he acted inspite of fear, he acted because his fear is conquered by Faith.
Now you want to be rich, a Millionare, popular etc. , then whats stopping you? You can say that its not for you, it was never meant for me , etc. , but thats only excuses to your self because you are afraid to face the challenges and your are afraid of your dreams!!! Well are very purpose here in life is to reach our dreams. Its your purpose to live your dreams, and its your purpose to reach that Zero to Millions on 3 years and its your duty to share it. He is calling you to live in FAITH and act inspite of Fear.God is calling you to have faith in him, to reach your dreams and goals. Act now before it's to late. Live in the present and not in the future, because today you create your dreams for tomorrow. Act now.
Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.
