GETTING more in line with fashion, trends in furniture design are coming in faster cycles. The Robb Report Collection magazine was, in fact, so moved to ask: How many variations on a piece of furniture does the human race really need?

Samie Lim, president of Blims Fine Furniture, fires back with a ready answer. “A number of homes and offices are being built now. From high-rise to single-detached home units or home with office settings, there is a need for furniture. There is a big opportunity for Blims, especially in these times when the real-estate industry is getting bigger again.”

The company has every reason to be optimistic about its prospects for the coming years. Recently, it presented the latest trends in furniture in a lifestyle exhibit at the Glorietta 3 called Elements, with pieces made of wood, glass and metal.

Living well. Here are some of the showcases at the recent home-style exhibit Elements, mounted by Blims Fine Furniture with the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers.

The Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID) was tapped by Blims as its design partner for the exhibit. “From its early beginnings, Blims has worked with a number of interior designers. We have worked hand-in-hand with them in creating the best spaces, whether for one’s home or office. Since we are celebrating our 30th year this 2007, we want to work with the best of the best,” Lim reveals.

“The PIID is the only recognized association by the Professional Regulation Commission in the field of interior design. Also this year, the group is launching an advocacy campaign in professionalizing the design industry. Blims believes firmly in this advocacy of the PIID. This exhibit is one of the ways to show the public on how talented these professional and licensed interior designers are,” he adds.

The items shown at Elements were the furniture pieces that Blims sourced the world over to bring to Filipino homes and offices. These were carefully selected items which the company feels can fit quite nicely in one’s personal space and truly satisfy one’s taste, budget and lifestyle.

The furniture pieces have a wide range. From your living, dining, bedroom, entertainment den or any room in the house, Blims carries them. It is the exclusive Philippine distributor of La-Z-Boy, the world’s bestselling recliner. A few months ago, Blims introduced the other furniture pieces of La-Z-Boy, such as its sofas and sofabeds.

It also now carries Eglo, an Austrian brand for lighting fixtures that can be initially found in the Glorietta, Greenbelt and Ortigas Home Depot branches. Blims is also home to world-class brands, such as Maestro, Decoro and Lifestyle.

“In order to meet the demands of our growing number of consumers, Blims is proud to announce that it will open more new stores soon. One will be located at the Hongkong Sun Plaza, on Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, and one will be at the Araneta Center in Quezon City. Both stores will be side by side with Automatic Centre. We are very optimistic about the success of these stores as we will continue to offer consumers a one-stop shop for your appliance and furniture needs,” Lim says.

Blims is the furniture division of Automatic Centre, the pioneer retail chain of consumer durables and one of the Top 500 corporations in country. Today it is the premier furniture retail chain in the Philippines, according to its web site blimsfurniture.com.

“We are proud to say that we are the forerunner in furniture retail here in the Philippines. As mentioned earlier, we have offered a number of many firsts in the furniture retail industry,” Lim states. “To add to these many firsts, Blims is the first furniture store to offer zero-percent interest in its furniture pieces. It is also the first store to offer ready-to-use and ready-to-deliver furniture.”

BEFORE I even got to watch it, there were so many things going against this film, Still Life. Intertextual realities. Things that are not of the film but outside the film, artifacts that are buried in sites away from where we are supposed to excavate the tale of this painter, James Magsino, traveling all the way to an isolated island to paint his last.
