AS
expected, Air21 Express Homer Se, Arwind Santos and
Wynne Arboleda were each assessed corresponding
punishments for their unwarranted actions during their
game against Rain or Shine on Sunday.
Se and
Santos, who both committed hard fouls, were each fined
P20,000 and were suspended one game. They were told of
their penalties after they were summoned Tuesday by
Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner
Sonny Barrios.
Se was
called for a flagrant foul-penalty 2 for planting an
elbow on Mark Andaya’s face during a rebound play, 4:17
to go in the second quarter.
That
infraction came at the height of Rain or Shine’s 19-2
run that gave it a 53-41 spread and primed it up for
more runs that quelled Air21’s protracted uprisings.
Last
season Se committed six flagrant foul-penalty 1
infractions.
Santos
was thrown out of the game midway the fourth period when
he committed a similar flagrant foul 2 on Elasto
Painters prized rookie Solomon Mercado.
Under
PBA rules, a flagrant foul-penalty 2 carries an
automatic one-game suspension.
Arboleda,
meanwhile, was banished for two technical fouls, the
first for a second motion after being fouled by Gabe
Norwood, this year’s top rookie pick, and the second
when he gave Norwood the “clothesline” early in the
final frame. He was fined P6,000.
Rain or
Shine, formerly Welcoat, won that game by a rout,
120-102.
Air21
will face Talk ’N Text Friday at the Araneta Coliseum
and Express coach Bo Perasol will only have eight
players on his lineup. Doug Kramer will miss the game
because he is marrying long-time girlfriend Cheska
Garcia on the same day and will have teammate JC Intal,
his best friend, as his best man.
“It will
be tough going up against Talk ’N Text without Arwind
and Homer as well as Doug. But we will find a way,” said
Perasol.
Air21 is
also looking at the possibility of signing up Adonis
Sta. Maria, at least on a short-term deal.
In
another development, Coca-Cola Tigers forward Mark Telan
was also slapped a P5,000 fine after being thrown out
for two technical fouls in their 98-97 loss to Talk ’N
Text on Saturday night at the Araneta Coliseum. --Dennis
