    Big, bigger and biggest news

THE word war involving Gabby Concepcion’s controversial former manager Rose Flaminiano, former actress Nadia Montenegro and, recently joining the arena, TV-radio show host-tabloid scribe Cristy Fermin, has made local show biz an exciting “battle of the bulge.”

And by bulge, we mean the meat of the news.

It all began when the former Regal Baby, Nadia Montenegro, unleashed all her rants about the recent controversies involving her. She tattled in several interviews on national TV that all she did was protect her friends who she thought were her real friends.

It’s been talk of the town how Montenegro fought for her long-time friend Gabby Concepcion. She was first alleged as the one discrediting Flaminiano in the face of Concepcion, who eventually filed charges against his former manager. Concepcion simply wanted to free himself from Flaminiano’s clutches.

Close show biz observers concluded that Fermin came into the picture because of her past riff with Montenegro. And it seems she’s out to defend Flaminiano and discredit Montenegro. It can be recalled that Montenegro was the one who reportedly tipped off Fermin about the Dodie Puno-Gretchen Barretto affair. Fermin wrote about it in her multitabloid columns and was picked up by various media outlets. When the sh-t hit the industrial fan, Fermin was confronted by Puno-Barretto’s camp to confess the source. Fermin readily named Montenegro.

The bigger problem started here. Fermin wanted to prove to the Barretto camp that she was telling the truth. Then again, if you view yourself a credible reporter, you should never reveal your source. But Fermin was caught in the crossfire really hard and to make a long story short, she was forced to present her source. It led to the infamous confrontation among concerned parties in a hotel near ABS-CBN. The agenda was to have Montenegro confess that she was the one who tipped off Fermin.

According to Fermin, her source called her up. Montenegro said she never made the call or sent an SMS about the affair. Her phone transactions were shown as proof and there never was a call to Fermin. Same with the mysterious SMS in her cell phone’s inbox. In an instant, Fermin’s credibility went down the drain in the face of the Barrettos. But the story didn’t end there. Montenegro lost friends for defending a friend. Eventually, Fermin and Barretto banded together and are out after her head.

Now, there’s the allegation that she sired a love child just two years ago, as Fermin recently revealed on national television. Montenegro remains unfazed, saying it’s all meant to discredit her. She even received reports from show-biz writers who are on her side that her enemies are spending a hefty sum to pay other writers and attack her.  The battle of the bulge continues and whoever has more meat will survive. For the weak of heart, it would be better to jog away all that fat and read a book on weekend afternoons, or stay away from show biz-oriented talk shows and focus on the tearful presidential debates on CNN and BBC.
