    Cebu Pacific cuts baggage allowance

CEBU Pacific is reducing its free baggage allowance (FBA) in all its flights to 15 kilograms (kg) from 20 kg. to save on cost.

“A lighter aircraft would burn less fuel so if passengers travel light, our fuel costs would likewise go down and we are able to pass on the savings to our passengers,” said Candice Iyog, vice president for marketing and product, in a statement.

The reduced FBA will apply to all bookings made starting September 2, 2008. For bookings made before September 2, the airline will honor the 20-kg allowance.  The maximum weight allowed for hand-carried luggage remains at 7 kg per passenger.

The FBA and maximum weight for hand-carried luggage for Boracay (Caticlan) flights remains at 10 kg. and 5 kg. per passenger, respectively.

The low-cost carrier also announced that it will offer a P200-fare discount for passengers with no check-in luggage.

“We are always looking for ways to reduce the fare paid by our passengers and since we are able to save on fuel when carrying less weight on our flights, we want to reward people who don’t have check-in bags,” said Iyog.

This “Go Lite” discount will apply to all Cebu Pacific’s fares and will be available for both domestic and international bookings beginning September 2 onwards.

The company will also offer a 20-percent discount for prepaid excess baggage through its web site, call center and ticket offices.  This will be offered in increments of 5 kg.
