  • International meet on teacher education on July 24-26

     

    The Fifth International Conference on Teacher Education (Icted ’08) will be held from July 24 to 26 at the Manila Hotel.

    Sen. Edgardo Angara will give the keynote address on “Reforms in Teacher Education,” while Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Acting Chairman Romulo Neri will close the conference with a talk on “Challenges for Teacher Educators.”

    The plenary speakers are: Dr. Patricia B. Arinto of the University of the Philippines Open University, “What and How Teachers Teach With Technology: Implications for Teacher Professional Development in Technology Integration;” Dr. Jill M. Bevan-Brown of Massey University, New Zealand, “Culturally Appropriate Provisions for Children with Special Needs from Ethnic Minority Groups: A Story of Two Maori Initiatives;” Cecilia T. Ubarra of Intel Technology Philippines Inc. and Dr. Carol Oakley of Deakin University, Australia, “The Intel Teach Program: Driving Teacher Education Curricular Reforms;” Dr. Fe Nava, Dr. Aurora Zuniga, Prof. Elenita Que, Prof. Vanessa Oyzon and Dr. Julian Abuso of the University of the Philippines, “A Closer Look at the Dropout Phenomenon;”

    Aniceto M. Sobrepeña, president of the Metrobank Foundation Inc., “Models and Measures of Teacher Quality and Quality Assurance in Teacher Education;”
    Dr. Nenalyn P. Defensor, commissioner, CHED, will also give a talk; Dr. Manabu Sumida of Ehime University, Japan, “Imperatives for Meeting the Needs of Diverse
    Children in Japan;” Mr. Juan Miguel Luz, President of the International Institute for Rural Reconstruction, “Global, Cultural and Political Influences on Teacher Education Curriculum, Delivery and Reform;” Dr. Vivien M. Talisayon, dean of the College of Education, University of the Philippines, “Agenda Setting for Research, Networking and Strategic Exchanges in Teacher Education.”
