Globe is top Yahoo! mobile search partner

Globe Telecom, the joint venture between Ayala Corp. and SingTel, is the top-performing Yahoo! oneSearch partner in Southeast Asia, generating a massive number of unique page views per day with its innovative mobile search engine.

Since entering into a strategic partnership with Yahoo! last year, Globe has registered continuous growth in users and traffic for Yahoo! oneSearch with its subscribers noted as being one of the most active globally, said the cellular firm in a statement yesterday.

Globe, however, did not provide any details.

Yahoo! oneSearch is designed to give answers delivered to mobile phones.  Search results are easy to read, and provide users with immediate access to news, finance and weather updates, images including Flickr photos, web, mobile web and Globe content.

With the encouraging take-up of the service, Globe and Yahoo! are constantly improving on the user experience. Globe subscribers can now able to check their flight schedules as well as get up-to-date scores of the latest sporting events.

At the end of the first quarter, Globe reported a cellular subscriber base of 21.3 million.

The cellular firm said it will soon offer hot keywords search feature to its subscribers. This feature recommends popular keywords that subscribers can simply click on to view results, removing the need to manually enter their search terms.

“The success of Yahoo! oneSearch in Globe shows that Filipinos respond positively and enthusiastically to relevant, easy-to-use services.

Expect more exciting services as we strengthen our partnership with Yahoo! to bring the best of the mobile Internet to users,” said Minette Navarrete, Globe head of multimedia business group.

“Yahoo!’s strategy to lead and enable the mobile ecosystem is being implemented by focusing on developing mobile-first experiences, and by working closely with great partners like Globe to offer compelling mobile services to users,” said David Ko, managing director and vice president, Yahoo! Connected Life Asia-Pacific.
