PRESIDENT Arroyo has appointed former Pampanga
representative Zenaida Ducut as acting chairman of the
Energy Regulatory Board (ERB), replacing Rodolfo Albano
whose term ended on July 9.
Press
Secretary Jesus Dureza announced the appointment of
Ducut, currently the deputy presidential legal counsel.
“Former
[representative] Zenaida Ducut of Pampanga has been
appointed by President Arroyo as acting chairman of the
Energy Regulatory Board as successor of Chairman Rodolfo
Albano, who has retired from public service. The
President thanked Chairman Albano for exemplary service
to the nation,” Dureza said in a statement.
Asked
why Ducut was appointed only in an acting capacity,
Dureza merely said it was specified in the appointment
paper signed by the President.
The
appointment of Ducut, who hails from the President’s
hometown of Lubao in Pampanga, is expected to generate
controversy as she is reportedly a lawyer of alleged
gambling lord Bong Pineda.
The ERB
chair has a fixed term of seven years. |
