SC affirms TRO on Petron sale

THE Supreme Court (SC) affirmed on Wednesday the decision of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Bataan to issue a writ of preliminary injunction enjoining the Bataan provincial government from proceeding with the public auction of the properties of top oil refiner Petron Corp., for its failure to pay P1.73 billion in real property tax due from 1994 up to 2007.

‘High oil, food prices hurt many’

THE reality of unabated increases in oil and food prices is already being felt around the world and is placing extreme pressure on developing countries like the Philippines, as they face balance-of-payments problems, higher inflation and worsening poverty.

SINCE the continuous increase in international oil prices has resulted in P3.6 billion in diesel underrecoveries, as claimed by the local oil industry, in April, any further delay in recouping such underrecoveries could lead to a diesel-supply shortfall in the country, oil-company executives said Wednesday.

DOF bares mitigating measures on peso

THE government said on Wednesday that the peso’s continued depreciation is not yet a cause for alarm, as the Department of Finance bared measures to prop up the national currency, among them, speeding up the availment of $900 million in program loans this year and slashing bank fees to entice more remittances from Filipinos abroad.

FPI seeks rule that system loss isn’t VAT-able
