Computer manufacturer IBM yesterday announced that it signed a 10-year, $324-million Business Transformation Outsourcing (BTO) agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb to transform and support the company’s global human resource (HR) functions. The contract will allow Bristol-Myers Squibb and to provide flexible and available HR services to enable its employees worldwide to access information and services wherever they may be.

IBM’s Human Resource and Finance and Administration (F&A) center in Manila, will deliver a suite of HR processes—covering payroll, compensation, benefits, learning, employee data management and its contact center to support Bristol-Myers Squibb’s global operations.

“Dynamic change in the pharmaceutical industry is forcing companies to become more streamlined in their operations. In order to manage talent within an organization, a company must have an integrated view into its employee population and workforce data. They need to ensure that their operations are using the current best practices as well as leading edge systems and tools,” IBM Philippines country general manager James Velasquez said.

“In leveraging business transformation outsourcing (BTO), companies acquire the greatest business value through the delivery and continuous transformation of business processes, applications and infrastructure. The approach that Bristol-Myers Squibb is taking for its HR function will be integral to helping the company better serve its customers and support its strategic transformation to a BioPharma leader,” IBM Asia-Pacific HR leader Renato Jiao said.

Under the 10-year agreement, IBM will provide compensation, benefits, recruiting, learning, payroll administration, call-center support and related information technology (IT) systems services to Bristol-Myers Squibb. IBM will also implement a SAP solution and integrate Bristol-Myers Squibb’s global workforce data into one portal that can be accessed by employees, managers and HR professionals around the globe.

These services will support Bristol-Myers Squibb’s operations in the United States, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium, as well as, limited support to 40 of its additional country locations in Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas.

Through the agreement, Bristol-Myers Squibb seeks to achieve a more integrated and improved employee experience, reduced costs, improved operational efficiency and access to innovative solutions.

“This win is a testament to the capability of IBM’s HR & FA center in the Philippines. We continue to earn the trust of our clients as we deliver HR and F&A services to their employees anywhere in the world.

This is IBM’s contribution to the growth of the Philippines’ BPO industry.” IBM Manila Center delivery leader Cassandra Soto said.
