EasyCall pays P14.82M in arrears to NTC

    By Lennie Lectura

    Reporter

EASYCALL Communications Philippines Inc. (ECPI) has settled its P14.82-million arrears with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on June 30, according to Renato Vicente Martinez, ECPI general manager.

In a disclosure,  Martinez said the amount was based on a reassessment made by NTC based on the company’s 2003-2007 annual reports.

“The NTC sent us a letter on June 26 requiring us to settle our supervision and regulatory fees [SRF] as of June 30,” Martinez said.

ECPI had earlier asked the NTC to cancel its SRF arrears because the paging industry has been losing due to the competition posed by cellular- phone companies’ text-messaging business.

Martinez said that with the closure of its paging operations in 2002, the ECPI no longer had telecommunications operations subject to NTC’s regulatory supervision.

The Corporate Corner: Corporate management under exceptional circumstances

ALMOST universally, the management of a corporation is vested by  general statute or charter provision in the board of directors or trustees.
